512 Kamalaries yet to be rescued as Rs 250 m gets spent for free Kamalari campaign: *********************************** Different organisations working for Free Kamalari Campaign have said that around Rs. 250 million was spent in five districts of the Mid-western region including Banke in the past 13 years, state-owned news agency RSS reports. The stakeholders said that the amount was spent for awareness, education and arrangements to Kamalaries, women bonded labourers from Tharu community, establishment of cooperatives for Kamalaries, their empowerment and construction of physical infrastructures, among others, during the period. The organisations working in the field of Kamalaries also claimed that they have rescued 12,500 kamalaries under the campaign. Different organisations including FNC, Freed Kamalari Development Forum, Backward Society Education, SWAN, Sahayog Samaj Dang and Plan Nepal, among others, spent the amount in different works related to Kamalaries. A total of 512 Kamalaries are yet to be rescued in five districts of the western Nepal including Dang although the government had already declared Kamalaries free, according to RSS.
