54 years ago, my mom and dad and their 3 kids, Steve, Scott and I moved here to Wahkiakum County (Skamokawa) from Lebanon, OR. My dad was a Union Oil man and for a few short years was the person who delivered oil to many houses here in Wahkiakum County to keep their houses warm. He worked for a few more businesses, Alan Johnson (Chevron oil), KR McNally Trucking, B.G. McNally Trucking before his last job he held till the day he passed for Wahkiakum County Road Dept. My dad became the man whom everyone came to know and love as Claire or Mac and he delivered hundreds of pounds of Fudge beginning in November through Christmas. It was his passion! Both Steve and I carried on this tradition here for many years and Steve continues this tradition as I have meandered to making Almond Roca (simple and easy to make as Fudge requires more time, especially the kind my dad made. Mom was a Homeaker, did cleaning jobs on the side for many people, Everett & Elrose Groves, Ruth and Wally Kaste to name a few. She was a Girl Scout Leader as well. We lived life simply and it was because of that simple life that I returned back to this county 23 years ago. LIfe isnt as simple as it was back when my parents raised us. We learned to respect, love, be honest and to help others. Missing them a great deal!
