55. Running Towards and Away from the Center: When we run (or walk with fierce determination) towards one thing, we flee from many other things behind and beside us—unless, that is, we move towards the CENTER. The image I invoke here is that of a circle or sphere where most running and walking is toward some point or region on the periphery or the horizon. Let us further suppose that, like the zodiac, the enneagram, or the mandala of the four psychological functions (intuition, thinking, feeling, and sensation), PLACE—along the circumference—is not ‘neutral,’ but saturated with quality. The further away we move from the center, where all qualities converge, the more distinct and differentiated the qualities become. We might think of a color wheel where each color and hue attains its greatest degree of distinction at the outermost limit of the circle—the circumference—while all colors merge into an undifferentiated state at the center.
