555th Parachute Infantry Association The time has come to generate public support and get the Triple Nickles their Congressional Gold Medal, The 555th Parachute Infantry were the first African American Paratroopers, the first Military Smokejumpers, the first All Black unit to be integrated into a Combat Division (82nd Airborne Divisions 3/505th AIR in Dec 1947, President Trumans Executive Order 9981 was issued on 26 July 1948). Their members helped formed the 503rd Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion, 80th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion, formation of the 2nd Ranger Infantry Company (Airborne) and integrated the 11 Airborne Division by sending cadre to form 3 Battalion 188 Airborne Infantry Regiment in 1950, while the 2nd Ranger Company helped integrate the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team in 1951. I encourage everyone to write to their Congressperson and demand that recognition be given to these Pioneers of American history that is justly due them.
