59 years ago today (1/6/1956) Rock Island Line by Lonnie Donegan enters to charts in the United Kingdom and the skiffle craze is on. Probably the most famous band to evolve from skiffle would be The Blackjacks, who became Johnny & the Moondogs, who became The Quarrymen, who became The Silver Beetles, who became The Silver Beatles and finally became The Beatles. By the end of the decade it was estimated that were up to 50,000 skiffle groups in the UK.
