5th July 1977 is the blackest day in our history, when a military despot deposed the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan and halted the process of democracy by clamping Martial Law over country. Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was falsely implicated in a case regarding murder of one Nawab Mohammed Ahmed Khan, and was sentenced to death by Justice Molvi Mushtaq of Lahore High Court. In his appeal before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Barrister Bhutto argued vehemently and most brilliantly, continuously for four days, bringing to light new points never occurred to anyone before, without referring to any document/exhibit produced in the case; thus presenting the highest standard of advocacy through his presence of mind, extraordinary memory, invincible courage and above all his genius. Unfortunately he was awarded death sentence by the split judgment of Supreme Court bench headed by Anwarul Haque, the then Chief Justice. This judgment is neither cited at bar, nor relied and referred to by the bench, for it has no legal and moral credibility. Alas! the nation has lost its hero in consequence of an split verdict of 3-4, which is held by the experts throughout the world as judicial murder. On 4th April 1979, at the age of 52 years, he is said to have been hanged. Pall of gloom spread over the country, which has not yet come out aftermath of Bhutto`s judicial murder. Socrates was also executed by split judgment of 4-5, thus after him Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto has gone down permanently in history as second martyr of democracy. He, who shall save his life, shall lose it, He, who shall lose his life, shall save it,
