5th May 2014 NEWS UPDATE FROM BULOLO COUNCIL PRESIDENTS IN BULOLO GIVEN VEHICLES TO DELIVER SERVICES Deputy Opposition Leader and Member for Bulolo said that Local Level Governments are the link to service delivery as they are closer to the people. Bulolo District is the biggest in terms of size and population in Morobe Province apart from Lae Urban Electorate and has six LLG including Wau and Bulolo Urban LLG that is separated by 45 kilomtres from both towns. With five rural LLG and Urban LLG for two towns and the emerging Township in Mumeng, the district administration, within the approved manpower and resource allocation cannot deliver much needed services. The Bulolo JDBPPC from 2007-2012 equipped the six LLGs with Bulldozers, Ambulances, tractors plus attachments, police vehicles and 10 reservists, sawmills and other technical equipment to enable each LLG to be independent and sustainable in service deliveries. In doing so the LLG presidents are expected to start running with the projects by coordinating with the LLG managers. The Bulolo District MP through the JDBPPC has made it possible to recognize the office of the LLG presidents as a very important partner to roll out those very important services. The Bulolo JDBPPC made available an open back land cruiser to the office of the six LLG Presidents to be used as a project service support vehicle. The vehicles will be used to transport fuel, operators and mechanics to the works site and also other project support services and deliveries. Mr Basil said when in government he will ensure it is mandatory for all LLG Presidents to have operating vehicles or at least funded by National Government also that all presidents when elected into office must have a new open back vehicle to support and help deliver services from the LLG level. Last Friday, Mr Basil presented the vehicles to his presidents with high expectation of the vehicles assisting with the delivery of services, service delivery should now be complemented and fast tracked to expectations by the people at the LLG level. Mr. Basil said the Presidents as leaders are covered under the Leadership Code and Criminal Code therefore they must be trusted to be able to use the vehicles wisely for the LLG and it is commonsense that if an LLG President were to have an accident or involved in misuse of the vehicle rendering it as non operational, he will have to hitch a ride whilst his five (5) counterparts utilize their allocated vehicles for work to complement their LLG Managers, Advisors and District staff. Approved for release. Sam Basil, MP Deputy Leader of Opposition
