6- Time Felon Still At Large.. Manhunt Underway.. A known felon wanted for the possession of a firearm is till on the loose after a manhunt in southwest Springfield. At approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday, a Greene County Sherriffs deputy tried to contact Gary Orrick, 41, a man with at least six prior felony convictions and a warrant from the FBI for a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. When the deputy approached Orrick, he fled, and soon multiple law enforcement agencies swarmed an area near Battlefield Road at Golden Avenue on the southwest side of Springfield. As a precaution, two schools, Carver Middle School and Jeffries Elementary were placed on lockdown for several hours. Around 2 p.m., sheriffs deputies and other officers stopped the active search but patrols remained elevated in the area. Deputies were sent to Carver and Jeffries to make sure students were safe as the lockdowns were lifted. The Greene County Sheriffs Office said in a statement that Orrick is considered dangerous and if you see him you should call 911 immediately. Orrick was charged on July 8, by the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Western District of Missouri with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Springfield police officers found him with a .22- caliber revolver on July 10 after a traffic stop near Grand St at West Avenue. During the traffic stop Orrick didnt have a drivers license and told officers that hed been out shooting the revolver earlier in the day, even though he is a convicted felon. Police say the revolver had six hollow point .22 caliber rounds in it. An FBI agents affidavit that is the basis of the federal charge says Orrick has at least six felony convictions, including five in Missouri. One conviction is for being a felon in possession of a firearm, for which he received a four- year, three-month federal prison sentence for on May 2, 2007. State court records show Orrick has several misdemeanor convictions in Missouri as well as felonies. Those records also show Orrick served time in a federal penitentiary in Beaumont, Texas, in the 1990s and early 2000s. Before going to prison, it appears that Orrick may have lived in Nevada and El Dorado Springs in west-central Missouri. Orrick is described as being 5- foot 9 and 160 pounds with short hair. He was wearing a sleeveless yellow/orange shirt/ long shorts and has tattoos on his legs and arms. Hes wanted on an FBI warrant for unlawful acquisition of a firearm. If you see someone matching this description in the area of southwest Springfield do NOT contact him or approach him-- Call 911..
