6.12.14 ------------ HISTORY OF TALPURS (40) ------------------------------------ -Mir Sheir Muhammad Khan Mankani - Pressure of British Govt.to Extort Money _ Seth Naonmal Mir Sheir Muhammad Khan’s men came in. After customary and formal exchange of views, they questioned the Seth about his purpose for coming in Mirpur. Naomal, replied them that he had come just for recreation and to enjoy the change of environment. They went back and reported Mir Sib that Seth Naonmal is the relative of Deewan Chata rsingh Mukhtiarkar.Better to send him to Seth Naonmal, to extract from him the actual purpose of his coming in Mirpur. Mir sb ordered his Mukhtiarkar Deewan Chatarsingh, for going to Seth Naonmal, to persuade and present him in Court.In the evening Deewan Chatarsingh called on to Naonmal. Deewan told to Naonmal that latter’s arrival here in Mirpur was reported to Mir sb in the morning and since then His Highness is sitting in Court, despite the suspension of all official engagements ,owing to Holy Month of Ramzan.Deewan further conveyed that His highness had desired to escort Naonmal to the Court before Hisgoodself. Naonmal replied to Chatarsingh, that his and His highness’s elders had friendly relations. Naonmal further told to Deewan that he was not well right by then and would appear in Court before His highness ,when gets well. Deewan argued further with Naonmal saying that His highness had been informed about the close family relation with him and if he (Naonmal ) didn’t accompany him to the Court, His highness would be annoyed. Naonmal agreed! He took four Sepoys, rode to Camel and went to Mir sb’s Kot. The Kot was constructed by Mir Tharo Khan and was in dilapidated condition.Hishighness was sitting in the Court. Naonmal was offered MANJEE (Netted Stool) to sit on. After traditional welcome sentences, Hishighness asked,” Have you brought any letter or message for me from Colonel Outram “? “Hasn’t he sent good wishes (Slaams)”? Naonmal replied, “Nothing! I haven’t come here in the capacity of his representative”! “You and Colonel Outram are friends to each other “, said His highness. “ No! Not so! we both belong to this country and there were friendly relations among our elders. I have therefore come at my own just to pay regards to your Excellency”, replied Naonmal. Naonmal, narrating the account of his appearance before His highness in the Court, says,” one courtier namely Imam Bux Nagor Sayed, asked about the battle between Englishmen and the people near Jodhpur, India. Before I could reply, all the courtiers started crosstalking.Some said, British Army was beaten badly. Some uttered, Britishers have been defeated disgracefully .Everybody uttered abuses to Englishmen; I went on hearing and remained calm! “. His highness asked me, “Why don’t you respond “? “ Before my response to the question asked by Imam Bux Nagor Sayed, the whole audience started cross commenting.
