6/7 summer journal. First day of summer went great. So great that I didnt have time to blog about it. The morning was a little rocky. I admit, I did have a small tantrum. Tantrum may not be the best word, freak out may be a better word for it. After making about two breakfasts and two snacks for my kids within a two hour period, waking up to the house being trashed from the kids, the constant MOM MOM MOM MOM, and a crying baby at my ankles before I had my coffee all while trying to do a ten minute estimate was enough for me to loose it. I quickly Snapped out of being a victim to summers circumstances and owned my Mommyhood. With a suggestion from a friend, I morphed her idea of a treasure box and my idea of a chore chart into one motivating idea. I pitched it to the kids with as much enthusiasm as I had. They went for it in a big way. Suddenly they transformed from The Destructors to little clean machines. They were more than happy to clean windows, bathrooms, tables, empty garbage, and fold laundry all for the sake of a star on some chart that at the end of the week will get them a present. This was the biggest accomplishment of the entire day. The remainder of our day involved swimming with friends and shuffling kids to soccer. The day was so busy that my kids actually fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow. What I learned was my kids will be running laps today.
