6.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Fiji region July 2014 – FIJI – A 6.9 magnitude Fiji earthquake today 2014 struck off the coast. The Fiji earthquake today July 21, 2014 began just after midnight. Damage assessment is pending. Officials tell news that the Fiji earthquake today started at a significant depth. It posted a depth of three hundred eighty-three miles below sea level. It started just after 2:54 am local time today as well. Reps tell news that the Fiji earthquake was northeast of Ndoi Island. The quake was roughly two hundred miles west of Tonga as well. USGS indicates to new that the quake was roughly three hundred miles south of Lambasa and the same distance from Nadi. Several quakes have been hitting the region in several months. In 2012, a massive 6.7 magnitude quake struck. That April 2012 quake was roughly one hundred seventy miles north of the town of Nuku Alofa and two hundred miles south of the Tonga community of Hihifo. Officials told news that the quake was roughly one thousand four hundred miles north of New Zealand. Today USGS indicates to news that “North of New Zealand, the Australia-Pacific boundary stretches east of Tonga and Fiji to 250 km south of Samoa.
