6 Famous people who failed their way to success Not everyone whos on top today got there with success after success. More often than not, those who history best remembers were faced with numerous obstacles that forced them to work harder and show more determination than others. Next time youre feeling down about your failures in college, business or in a career, keep these six famous people in mind and remind yourself that sometimes failure is just the first step towards success: Some of the more famous people that failed are: 1. Oprah Winfrey was fired from her television reporting job because they told her she wasnt fit to be on screen, in her teen years she got pregnant and lost the baby, she grow up in poverty and was abused and molested as a child .. But Winfreys tragic past didnt stop her from becoming the force she is today. She excelled as an honors student in high school, and won an oratory contest which secured her full scholarship to college. Now the entrepreneur and tv personality has the admiration of millions and a net worth of $2.9 billion. She is one of the most successful and richest people in the world today, and Her show is the most viewed talk show on the planet, turning Oprah into a billionaire. 2. Michael Jordan: He’s famous for being cut from his high school basketball team. He turned out to be the greatest basketball player but never let failure deter him. I love this quote…“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” 3. Bill Gates didn’t seem like a shoe-in for success after dropping out of Harvard and starting a failed first business with Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen called Traf-O-Data. While this early idea didn’t work, Gates’ later work did, creating the global empire that is Microsoft 4. Steve Jobs..Jobs redefined the way the world used personal computers, through the company he founded, Apple, Inc. He created Mac computers and the GUI (Graphical User Interface). But he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with his driven personality. By age of 30, the board of directors of the very company he built “fired” him, leaving him humiliated and depressed. But he started another company (NeXT Computer), which developed the next-generation personal computer technology, and bought Lucasfilm’s computer graphics division and renamed it Pixar. When a failing Apple, Inc. asked Jobs to return to their helm, he again took over and eventually made Apple, Inc. one of the most innovative and profitable companies on the planet. 5. Thomas Edison failed 1,000 times before creating the lightbulb. Although the exact number of tries has been debated, ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 attempts, its safe to say Edison tried and failed a whole lot before he successfully created his beacon of light. His response to his repeated failures? “I have not failed. Ive just found 10,000 ways that wont work.” 6. Sylvester Stallone was expelled from 14 schools in 11 years. His university professors discouraged him from an acting career and his screenplay for “Rocky” was also rejected by all but one company who would only buy it on condition he would not act in it.
