This year’s proceeds will go toward a collaborative project with Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) to expand the Green Schools Challenge and introduce the new Grants for Green Leadership: Students Implementing Change program. Grants for Green Leadership is designed to engage students in developing solutions for the urgent environmental issues through the mastery of STEM-based subjects. This program model empowers over 140,000 students per year to become part of the solution and has saved the MDCPS $1.84 million in energy costs, conserved 16.9 million Kilowatt hours of electricity, and offset 29.7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions – the equivalent of taking 1,605 Miami homes off the electricity grid for an entire year in.
