6 May BENTSL TSALEVITSH (near Bialystok in 1883 – Tel Aviv, 6 May, 1962). Member of “Kleyner Bund” in Bialystok, member of Polish Bund, trade-union organizer, member of the Bund self-defense forces, elected to the Minsk District Bund Committee, chairman of the Bund faction on the Bialystok Kehile, elected to the Histadrut a number of times between 1922 and 1930, spoke only Yiddish when addressing the Histadrut, struggled for the rights of Yiddish in Eretz Israel, founded the first bakers’ cooperative, which was called Achdut, first leader of the Tel Aviv Bund, founding member of the post-war World Co-ordinating Committee of the Jewish Labour Bund.
