6 October 2014 - raptor migration at Khao Dinsor, Thailand. Today we had rain for much of the day...a light, misty steady rain at times. Dave Eric Sargeant and I manned the top platform, and we found a few migrating Oriental Honey-buzzards - see attached photos. But Tom Backlund (of Hua Hin and Finland...but Tom is really Swedish) made both Dave and me cry, because he saw the only flock of 15 or so White-throated Needletails. Meanwhile, Rongrong Angkaew and Thitisan Nakavirod were at Platform 1 - and they added Black Kite and lots of Chinese Sparrowhawks (and a few Oriental Honey-buzzards). Finally, Andrew Pierce found a White-bellied Sea-eagle that stayed low on its way toward Platform 2. Lots of photographers from China were visiting today (Platform 1) - and this week marks the arrival of Henk Smit of Holland and Martti Siponen of Finland. See accompanying Oriental Honey-buzzard photos that show the diversity of color patterns of this species...Most importantly Werat Kaewklam was able to persuade the Monks of the nearby temple to allow one of our volunteers (a young man from France) to live with the Monks for the next month or so
