6 Secularism as a Religion It is the secularist who does not Wish to define it as religious plot, Much like the Fundamentalist among The Christians who refuses, though he’s young, To admit that his own faith in his God Is also a religion on the sod. If we define religion as belief In gods or God, then we are faced in chief With the problem that Buddhist ways are mostly Without Gods, Fathers, Sons, or even ghostly. The secular is a religion too, Though without any Papal see or crew And without a god stated personal Within pantheon’s arsenal. It has beliefs and ancient history, Its rituals, clerics and ministry. The modern form throughout the world Begins in Roman Empire swirled With unbelief in pagan gods And jaded philosophic prods. This is the challenge Constantine Met with his Christian sort of scene. The doctrine of the Trinity Was wisely set in liberty To satisfy the needs of men Who failed to believe in gods then. Those who failed to see in that thought Salvation in a single drought, But still conceived that God must be In character of Zeus were free In both the pagan and the church To reject such gods in the lurch. Even today the atheist Conceives of God that is in gist A Zeus and that’s what he rejects, The white-haired elder he inspects. That built-in fault in Christian faith Creates the secularist wraith, And such remains in seed and sight From century to sentry’s light. The cult official that gave right To Caesar remains clear and bright In public ritual today. The congregation of strong games On the arena that set flames Of faith in early Roman hearts Is mirrored in sports beyond darts, A ritual that still remains Strong and popular without strains. The personal devotion is More difficult to state in biz Because so little research shows The ritual acts a man knows In private life, but I suppose It stays on levels unaware And trivial when it’s laid bare. The secular faith is as strong Or stronger than those that belong To other traditions. It’s based On a mind-set convinced and laced That automatically returns To its view that the things it spurns Are superstitions, only it Is a worldview that can be fit. The common features that it shows Then are that the god that it knows Is never personal, and yet Impersonal universe set Is governed by its laws and makes Human behavior in its stakes Not to be questioned or denied In ritual public and tried And in the single person’s way Of ordering both life and day.
