6 Septembre (2005) by Christian Boltanski showed at the @fondationlv #ChristianBoltanski, #french artist, expresses his artistic essence through different means of creativity and is reknown for his #avantgarde #films. Because of his jews origins, his artistic work is related to the #memory - #individual and #collective - and #humans being as a main progression. Every individual is #emotionally confronted to #Boltanskis pieces, as we face works #commemorating the #past that can be interpreted dramatically, #personally or #universally. 6 Septembre roots its meaning into an #existential connection to the world through #emotive thematics: life, death, memory, oblivion. The installation consists of three #screens where rapidly short sequences of TV news (collected at the National Institut of Audiovisual in Paris) from events that have occured on the #6thseptember (birthday of the artist) from 1944 to 2004 appear. From war in Vietnam, to Johnny Hallyday through images of unknown people, the artwork combines all those goings-on into one single #anonymity. The spectator can stop any of the screens at every moment by pushing a spot. This #video brings the memory back to striking events that happened around the planet as well as to personal happenings that affected individually the life of many people. Also, the work can be understood as a #critic to our #contemporary #society which has moved towards the overload and #mass consumption of #mediatised #information.
