6. The Human Paradox. (1221.8) 111:6.1 Many of the temporal-earthly troubles of human mortals grow out of their two-fold relationship to The Cosmos. Humans are part of Nature — they exist within Nature — and yet humans are is able to transcend Nature. Humans are finite, but they are indwelt by a spark of infinity (The God "particle" within the human mind). Such a dual situation not only provides the potential for evil to happen, but also causes so many social/moral problems (or situations) of un-certainty and anxiety. (1222.1) 111:6.2 The courage required to conquer Nature and to transcend one’s own nature is a courage that might succumb to the temptations of self-pride or self-deception. The human mortal who can transcend themselves, might yield to the temptation to deify their own Self-Consciousness. The human dilemma consists in the double fact that, humans are in bondage to Nature, while at the same time they possess a unique liberty — the freedom of spiritual choice and action. On the material level, humans find themselves subservient to Nature, while on spiritual level humans are triumphant over Nature and triumphant over all things temporal and finite. Such a paradox is inseparable from temptation, and from potential evil, and from decisional errors, and when the human self becomes proud and arrogant, sin can evolve. (1222.2) 111:6.3 The problem of sin is not automatically-self-existent within the finite world. The fact of finiteness is not evil or sinful, of itself. The finite world was made by an Infinite Creator — it is the handiwork of His Divine Sons — and therefore it must be good. It is the misuse, and distortion, and perversion of the finite world, that gives origin to evil and sin. (1222.3) 111:6.4 The spirit can dominate the mind and so mind can control energy. But, mind can control energy, only through the minds own intelligent manipulation of the metamorphic potentials inherent within the mathematical level of the causes and effects of the physical Universe. The human creature mind does not inherently control energy, that is a Deity prerogative. But, the human creature mind can and does manipulate energy, only in so far as it has become master of The Energy Secrets of The Physical Universe. (Tesla - Einstein) (1222.4) 111:6.5 When humans wish to modify physical reality, be it themselves or their environment, they succeed to the extent that they have discovered the ways and means of controlling matter and directing energy. The un-aided human mind is impotent to influence anything material, except its own physical mechanism (the human body), which the human mind is inescapably linked to. But, through the intelligent use of the body mechanism, the human mind can create other mechanisms (computers and energy systems), even energy relationships and living relationships, by the utilization of these relationships this human mind can increasingly control and even dominate its own physical level within The Universe. (1222.5) 111:6.6 Science is the source of facts, and the human mind cannot operate without facts. These facts are the building blocks in the construction of wisdom, which are all cemented together by the life experience. Humans can find the love of God without facts, and humans can discover The Laws of God without Love, but humans can never begin to appreciate the infinite symmetry, and the supernal harmony, and the exquisite repleteness of the all-inclusive nature of The First Source and Center, until they have found The Divine Law and The Divine Love and have experientially unified these elements within their own evolving cosmic philosophy. (1222.6) 111:6.7 The expansion of material knowledge permits a greater intellectual appreciation of the meanings of ideas and the values of ideals. A human being can find Truth, within their own inner experience, but they need a clear knowledge of facts, in order to apply their personal discovery of Truth to the ruthlessly practical demands of everyday life. (1222.7) 111:6.8 It is only natural that human mortals should be harassed by feelings of insecurity, as they view themselves inextricably bound to Nature, while they possesses spiritual powers, totally transcendent to all things temporal and finite. Only religious confidence — a living faith — can sustain humans amid such difficult and perplexing problems. (1223.1) 111:6.9 Of all the dangers, which beset human mortal nature and jeopardize human spiritual integrity, spiritual pride is the greatest danger. Courage is valorous, but spiritual egotism is vainglorious and is suicidal. Reasonable self-confidence is not to be deplored. The human beings ability to transcend themselves is the one thing, which distinguishes themselves from the animal kingdom. (1223.2) 111:6.10 Pride is deceitful, and is intoxicating, and is sin-breeding, whether it is found in an individual, or in a group, or in a race, or in a nation. It is literally true that, “Pride comes before a fall”.
