6 companies entered bids for a project to repair the sheet pile and road leading to the St. George Island boat ramp. The area was damaged last summer during tropical storm Debby. FEMA is covering much of the cost of the repair work – it has promised nearly a half million dollars for the work. The county is supposed to pay 12 and a half percent of the cost, but is trying to get their portion waived – if they cannot their portion will cone from the bridge repair fund. The bids ranged from about 430 thousand dollars to over 880 thousand. Commissioners have passed the bids to the Prebble Rish Engineering firm for further analysis and expect to choose a contractor at their next meeting. There is a deadline of November 30th for the repair work to be complete.
