6 lbs of San Marzano tomatoes from our garden. All-day simmering of this home-made marinara based on my moms recipe (a favorite memory from my youth) with a supplement of about 10 more lbs of heirloom tomatoes, a couple of finely chopped onions caramelized in beef fat and de-glazed with red wine, some dried oregano and marjoram from our herb garden plus fresh basil. Oh, and meatballs made from organic grass-fed beef and lamb with shallots, rosemary and basil to feed my awesome neighbors during Sunday football yesterday. Thanks to Tommy Tallarico for inspiring me to plant the San Marzanos. They rock as a sauce tomato.
