#6 of 25 IT IS ALL ABOUT THE VOICE! by Tommy Griffiths A voice over demo makes a powerful statement about you in the first 3 seconds. In 3 seconds, the casting director decides if you’re what they want. Your demo needs to be awesome. From the first spoken syllable you should represent your very best performance. That’s why I rarely recommend using gigs you were hired-for on your demo. What if you haven’t been hired to do the character, or type of delivery that you can nail? Your demo is then held hostage by the gigs that just happened to be available, and you just happened to land. Find a VO coach who produces VO demos. Together, you and your coach will find the absolute best material suited for you. Then, you’ll be carefully directed as you record your brief demo- no longer than: 50 seconds. Anything longer won’t be listened to entirely. The key is to leave them wanting more, and the only way that’s gonna happen is when they call you, or your agent.
