60 hours of bell ringing in the tank tonight. I think I can see - TopicsExpress

60 hours of bell ringing in the tank tonight. I think I can see 100 a tad more clearly. My daughter has spinal surgery next week so that will cut into my hours - selfish brat - but other than that its clear skies and green lights. Every single year people will come up to me and talk. I have written down a lot of these conversations and turned them into Bell Ringing Stories. People need to talk and sometimes it is easiest to talk to a stranger. One year, a man told me about how he spent his time in the Korean war playing baseball for the Army while his friends were getting killed. He cried when he walked away. Tonight a woman told me how the Salvation Army kept her utilities on after her husband became paralyzed. She cried when she walked away. The only time I ever cried listening to someone was when a very, very elderly woman put her hand on my arm and said: when I was a little girl the Salvation Army bought me a baby doll when my daddy was out of work during the depression. She put money in the bucket and walked away. Life can be easy when we have money in our wallet and our legs work just fine. Life can be hard when your car wont start and it doesnt matter too much anyway because you dont have a job to go to in the morning. Life is more than our own troubles, but as Jesus said, our own troubles are usually sufficient to keep us busy. Try not to judge others too harshly and try to never feel that you have it all figured out. I thought I was a pretty smart guy and now I find myself on the wrong side of 50 and about as confused as I was when I was 15. Life can be easy and it can be hard. Sometimes were in control and sometimes an unexpected extinction event asteroid knocks you out of your safe orbit. This time of year, if youre able, try to help those that are doing worse than you. https://youtube/watch?v=RXCEdrnaFlY
