600 Micro Sprints to Race Wingless in 2015 - Two-Day Bill Thomas Memorial Event & Six-Race Poker Series Highlight Season Schedule. Bridgeport, NJ (January 2, 2015) – After much thoughtful observation and deliberation, the competitors in the 600cc micro sprint division will be shedding their wings full-time at Bridgeports 1/4 mile facility in 2015. After five trial runs in 2014, it was evident to Bridgeports management team that wingless 600 micro racing was the way to go for this coming racing season. There were several different reasons that led to the decision to change the look of Bridgeports Friday night headline class. For starters, most of the tracks are running wingless, whether its on a full-time or part-time basis. Tracks like Kutztown, Hamlin, and Airport all run wingless weekly, as well as Lindas on a part-time schedule. A second determining factor for the 2015 change is the tracks high dollar Poker Series; a monthly staple on this years Bridgeport docket. Last year, the outsiders held the slight advantage when the Poker Series rolled into town. We felt that it didnt make a whole lot of sense for our better paying races (along with point fund money) to be held wingless, while our normal Friday nights would be winged, offered track owner Brian Ramey. When the better paying races take place, Im pretty sure the Bridgeport Speedway drivers will be better acclimated this year, Ramey added. However, what influenced the tracks decision more than anything when it came down to it, was the actual racing. Last year, the racing that transpired on the 1/4 mile was phenomenal, especially during the wingless shows. So many drivers sliced and diced their way to the front while putting on a show for the crowd, rather than being mucked in the back of the pack unable to get to the front. Three, four, and yes, even five abreast was a common scene throughout the wingless races last season. The racing was tremendous and the car counts were always up, Ramey pointed out. Timmy Buckwalter and Alex Bright, two open wheel midget standouts, took top honors in last years first two wingless shows, while Lee Nardelli was able to end the year on a hot streak by winning the final three wingless races at Bridgeport. Although they didnt visit the winners circle, hot shoes such as Brett Michalski, Billy Pauch Jr., Robbie Hocker, Sammy LaMothe, Molly Chambers, Sam Locuson, 14 track champ Luke Thomas, 13 track champ Bill Thomas, Tony DiMattia, Jay Hartman, and last years Poker Series Champion Jermain Godshall are just a few names that were able to adapt with success in just a handful of wingless starts on the 1/4 mile. Friday night racing will once again be the focus for the 1/4 mile track in 2015 kicking off on April 10. The 270 Micro Sprints will race weekly alongside of the 600s and will remain winged this coming season. The 4-cylinders will round out the three weekly divisions. There will be plenty of extra-curricular activity on almost every Friday night of the season at Bridgeport. The ARDC Midgets have four scheduled Friday shows, while the Open Modifieds will appear five times on Friday nights, and the TSRS 305 Sprints will have five Fridays on the agenda. The Gasko & Son Farm & Greenhouses 8-cylinder Enduros have 8 races planned on the 1/4 mile as well. The slingshots have 8 scheduled races for the 15 season which will now allow any competitor to use Bridgeport as their home track for the National Tour points system. New to the 2015 schedule is the two-day end of the year event for Bridgeports 1/4 mile Nationals. Once again the Southern Jersey oval will host the annual Bill Thomas Memorial event. The late William Bill Thomas was a huge supporter of Micro-Sprint racing at Bridgeport Speedway and this will be the fifth fall classic held in his honor. October 23 & 24 will mark the inaugural two-day show for the 1/4 Nationals. Although the format and times havent been completely ironed out, look for many of the visiting divisions from the entire season to compete in this much anticipated event. The 600 & 270 Micros will share top honors on this weekend as they will most likely be joined by the 4 & 8 cylinders, Delaware Trucks, Open Modifieds, Slingshots, and possibly another division or two. There are six Sunday Poker races scheduled for the 15 campaign. Make sure to mark your calendars on May 3, May 31, June 21, July 5, August 23, and September 13. These races will all pay $1,000 to win for the 600 micros. The 270s, Slingshots, and 4 cylinders will also be on the agenda for all the Poker races. All four divisions will also compete in their own respective Poker Series as well. The Friday night start time will remain at 8pm allowing teams to the extra time to travel to the speedway. New clay was added all around Bridgeports inner track this past November before the 5/8 racing season had concluded. Were extremely looking forward to our 1/4 mile program this coming season, said Ramey. Our Friday night program is just as important and valuable as our Saturday program is to Bridgeport Speedway. A quick reminder to all of the 1/4 mile competitors: All drivers participating in oval racing subject to NJSA 62-4, will be required to wear a head and neck restraint system meeting SFI specification 38.1 The Bridgeport Speedway Staff will be at the Motorsports Expo located in Oaks, PA throughout the weekend of January 23-25. All the necessary paperwork will be available for drivers and teams to obtain for the upcoming racing season. The track staff will also be present to answer any and all questions regarding the upcoming season and they would love for you stop on over and say Hello.
