62: MY FAIR LADY... FAIR GAME? Beginning with a question: What do fair and dusky skin tone actually mean: a type of complexion or the quality of complexion? Well, this is not a random query that occurred to my conscious but a dispute which is has caused a tumult amongst the beliefs deep down inside me. Just few days ago, while my eyeballs were glued to my TV set, something very usual hit the screen - advertisement of a skin whitening cream. From tip to toe, every minute detail in that video, hardly a minute long, was implying to dearth of script and concept in the publicity market. Exactly like any other orthodox advertisement, it was downplaying some very worthy aspects and adulating fair skin. Before pronouncing my impressions and thoughts, let me brief you about that baseless story line of the video : A well-educated but dusky girl is being persuaded by her father to get married and for bolstering his opinion he is quoting widely acknowledged factors like acha ladka aur acha khandaan, well settled, own house and sundry features. Girl, quite perplexed, surrenders to his will and while sharing this with her friend, the secret to fair skin and happy life is unveiled. Yes, you guessed it right, our very own patented gori girl Yami Gautam handed her fairness tube. The tube casts a magic spell and our wretched saanwali ladki transforms into a light emitting diode. Now that she is GORI and confident, she convinces her father and much to my surprise, her father is now proud of her ( Gori skin effect) and the story meets a happy ending. First point that came to my mind after watching this masterpiece was : Are they trying to project that dark skinned girls are not confident and efficient enough to live the way they like ? Do self-esteem and mettle come only in free package with fairness ? In compliance with my personal views and experience, my skills are exclusive of my skin tone. Being born with a dark tone, I have never come face to face with any of the entrenched evils that our regular fairness publicizing videos broadcast. Im not trying to play the blame game, neither Im making our society a scapegoat but striving to find out the valid answer to this exalted position gifted to white skin by our society rather our business firms. And what makes me to object against these publicity strategies is endorsements like Paaiye gori damakti twacha by actresses who are not milky white themselves. For God sake! That gori damakti twacha is not all that means to a girl. Now, some avid backers of gori damakti twacha would enlist few points to beef-up their stand and here are those: 1. A gori twacha gets you a good job as it is depicted in the advertisements. A bechari saanwali ladki runs poll to post for a job but to no avail and as soon as she becomes gori, world bows to her. 2. Gori girls are always at higher possibilities of getting a good spouse as compared to saanwli ones. Remember the ad starring Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra. Chopra lost her love to Neha Dhupia but the story takes a u-turn when Chopra after using Fair & Lovely comes across Khan and her gori damakti twacha helps her to win her love back. 3. Dusky girls are supposed to be gloomy bcuz they are dusky like pehle main kaali thi aur main bahut dukhi thi. I mean,..... seriously......? For reciprocating the above mentioned points here are mine : 1. Im not negating the impact of good looks but is that gora element enough for recruiters to deem you as a person embellished with great personality? Does this gorapan ensures them of an impeccable work? Arent they concerned about any other valuable skill? 2. Yes, a gori white skin is all that matters to your soul-mate. Isn’t it ? No matter how good your relationship is going on, if you are not gori anymore he is no more your man...Why??? 3. And the most ridiculous one...what on earth has fairness to do with happiness? Is it justified to stay monotonous just bcuz you are not gori ?.That’s the funniest and most absurd thing I have ever heard. For the ad gurus: Do you guys ever make a sense ? Would you ? Its not that a saanwali girl faces discrimination on a daily basis and neither this has ever happened with me, not even in a distant memory. Its just because of those despos, who are leaving no stone unturned to make money, that fair skin is being considered as boon and the dusky one as a bane. Genuinely speaking, each one of us yearn for a fair tone but this should not advocate looking down upon saanwla. And to all those dusky girls like me, this complexion is what we have inherited from our parents and there is nothing to be ashamed of particularly about saanwla rang. Its only people who categorize things as superior and inferior, nature hasnt done so. -Anonymous #firsttime To read more form this writer , go to #Anonymous4_CB Visit Crappy Blogging for more such blogs Send your writing to tinyurl/pjap4js Write ANONYMOUS if you wish.Privacy ensured
