62% of Myanmar people believe country moving in the right direction according to fascinating and in-depth new Asia Foundation survey. I was at a panel discussion yesterday hosted by the Asia Foundation on the new report with Asia Foundation Country Rep Kim Ninh, U Ko Ko Gyi, Daw Susanna Hla Hla Soe, and Voice U Zeya Thu. Other findings include: 50% say their economic situation has not improved over the past year; 35% say they are better off, 15% worse off. 82% could not name any branch of government. 85% knew the name of their village/ward head but only 4% could name their Member of Parliament. Surveys are never perfect, and all findings have to be taken with a pinch of salt. But I think its great that its now possible to conduct surveys like this.
