66 years ago today, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In light of the harsh realities exposed by the CIA’s Torture Report yesterday, it is important we reflect on how these abuses of human rights are a betrayal of our values as Americans. In the words of Nelson Mandela, To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.” We must take steps to right the wrongs made evident by the CIA Torture report immediately. I think this op-ed by Thomas Friedman aptly describes what many of us are feeling after the report came out.
