66th Republic Day celebrated in Doda: By: Haq Nawaz Nehru Doda, January 26: 66th Republic Day was today celebrated in Doda District with great zeal, enthusiasm, gaiety and fervor. Deputy Commissioner Doda Mr. Shyam Vinod Meena was the chief guest on the occasion who unfurled tricolor, inspected parade and took salute of the march past contingents of JKP, CRPF, IRP, FPF, JKHG, NCC and students of government and private educational institutions. Speaking on the eve of 66th Republic Day in Doda, Mr. Meena said that Republic Day is very significant in the history of the country as our country has become republic on that day. He recalled the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for strengthening unity and brotherhood in the country. Enumerating the measures being taken by the District administration to provide public services to the people and develop the District in various sectors, DDC said that Dessa - Doda Water Supply scheme was made functional, new subjects were introduced in Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, 97 schemes under PMGSY were started out of which 24 stands completed and on the rest the work is in progress, besides various initiatives have been taken by district administration to create employment avenues through high potential Agriculture and other allied sectors. He further informed that a proposal for construction of 100 MW Solar Power Plant have been received by the District administration, which will solve the problem of Power shortage in the District and the administration on war footing is identifying the land for the same. He also informed that District Doda has almost achieved 100% opening of bank accounts for financial inclusion under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). Later on a scintillating cultural bonanza was presented by the students of various schools which received great applause from the audience especially cultural item with theme “communal harmony” presented by Government Higher Secondary School ( Boys ) Doda. On the concluding ceremony, DDC awarded the best performing teachers of the District, students who topped in Board exams, best march past contingents and best cultural programme. DDC also gave away the silver and bronze medals awarded to the officers/ officials by the Registrar General and Census Commission of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for their performance in the census 2011.
