67-68 Eighth Grade Class Re-union - June 25, 1983 May of 1983, I received a phone call from two of my former students, Doffie Jean Conwell and Helen Buie. They asked me if there was a weekend in June when I would be available to attend a picnic with former students and perhaps some teachers from Roosevelt Junior High School (years 1966-67 and 1967-68). I gave the two or three options. They also asked me to share the names and addresses of teachers who were at Roosevelt during the same period of time that I was there. They would contact students and teachers and organize the picnic, including selecting a place for the picnic, food and activities. They set the date of the picnic for Saturday, June 25, at the Kilbourne Park. It was really great to see so many of my former students who were all nearly thirty years old. And what a great bonus. Many of my student’s parents were there as well. And even a greater bonus. Many of my students brought their children. In addition several teachers were there to celebrate as well. It was a treasure chest of good humor, laughter, and great conversations and great stories. It was a wonderful, joyful summer afternoon. The former students who organized the picnic did a wonderful job. There was lots of food and drink, and activities for the kids. They put a thirty six page booklet together that included the pictures of the two years of classes and the choir. The booklet listed the names of thirty six former students and their current occupation. (See list – next story). They dedicated the reunion in my honor. They included several wonderful comments in the booklet about how I had impacted their lives. Another treasure.
