7/1/2015. ॐ श्रीपरमात्मने नमः । WHAT IS BODY- OUTER ORGANS (Karmendriyas). (6) We have seen that body has five receptor organs: ear, skin, eye, tongue and nose. These are receptor organs; it means they receive the subjects. Say some sound is heard to ear. Ear can’t go and seek sound and listen to it. Same is about other receptor organs also. They are like discs. They catch the waves passing and relay them to brain. But if you desire to listen a particular music or a song, then you will have to ask the action organs to manage for it. These action organs or Karmendriyas are also five namely: tongue, hand, leg, genitalia and anus. Again they are correlated with the receptor organs, Chakras and basic elements. Tongue is a mean of communication. It uses data collected by the ear in the form of impression, waves, images, density of sound, mood of speaker and the wave length. If tongue is workable but there is no collection of data with brain collected by the ear, then you can’t communicate with the world and tongue remains useless. Hand is a mean to catch, touch, grasp and leave. The leg helps you to travel in the search of the subjects and objects. Genitalia are mean of enjoyment and procreation for genealogy. The anus is means for purgation, elimination and excretion. What you can do with your hands, your legs, your tongue and so on, you can also get it done by others tongues, hands and legs if you can afford to hire them by spending the money. In that sense the money is also your outer or extended body. If you are collector and a large manpower is at your disposal, you can order their tongues, hands and legs for fulfillment of your desires, and in that sense the designation, power, status, strength, relations, threatening power and your clout on political arena are also extensions of your body. And it is due to this reason that the man has as much longing, craze, infatuation, greed, lust and killing instinct for all these instruments as he has for his body. The organs themselves are dead. They are like just windows in a house. As window in a house only makes available you a place to look out, same way your eye makes you available the place to look outside your body. But if mind is not intending to look anything, then though many things will be before your eyes, you will be looking nothing. So as long as mind is not aligned with the organ, the organ is just like dead window. Just take the mind as energy, electricity and the organ as a fan. Fan will be there, the electricity will be there, but if the switch is not on, the fan will lye as dead and idle. But the moment it is switched on, it will run vehemently. Same way the mind provides energy to the organ, and if mind is not aligned with the organ, the organ will lye idle just like open window, without its any liveliness. You will have experienced that when you are lost in some important work and your mind is over absorbed in that work, and somebody calls you, though your ears are open, you will not be listening the calling person. The other way is also equally true, if your organs are silent, closed, restricted, but your mind is enjoying the object of any particular subject in imagination, you are liable for that action, though you have not touched that work physically. The other way round is also equally true, if you do work with organs but your mind is inactive, uninvolved, desireless, then though you do that sinful work physically, you are not responsible for that work because it is your body’s work and not yours work. Krishna calls this action as Nishkaam Karma. शारीरं केवलं कमॅ कुवॅन्नाप्नोति किल्बिषम्।।(Gita४/२१). Thus working only through body, he is not affected by the sinful reactions. (Gita-4/21). One more thing to be noted here is, mind can align with subject of only one sense organ at any given point of time. Say mind is engaged in hearing some music, and then all the sense organs will cooperate the mind in hearing that music. If you are delivering a lecture, then all other organs will cooperate you in delivering the lecture, say hands will gesticulate, eyes will move and blink in support of it, the whole body language will manifest accordingly. More tomorrow. हरिः ॐ तत् सत् ।
