7/3/1914- Edgar Howard Joe Ducey, a Platte county farmer, has patented a collapsible harrow, and it is liable to bring him a pot of money. The need for this invention was made plain to Mr. Ducey by watching the efforts of the farmers down in Arkansas trying to harrow fields in which there are more stumps and stones than soil. The new device works like a lady’s fan. It is so adjusted that when one side of the harrow strikes a stump or a stone it folds together like the ribs of a fan, and thus the farmer is enabled to pass with the harrow between two stumps not more than a foot apart. Mr. Ducey says the Arkansas farmers are taking to his new harrow like a coon-dog to a hot trail on a rainy night. The genius of Nebraskans may ultimately admit Arkansas to the society of civilization.
