It had a depth of 556 kilometers and was tectonic in origin. Intensity III was reportedly felt in Malita, Davao del Sur and Intensity II in Davao City. The US Geological Survey gave a slightly lower magnitude of 5.8 and a slightly deeper depth of 545.4 kilometers. Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the quake but aftershocks were anticipated.
