7:52 am still no sleep. YA know Ive been up thinking all night.... I really feel sorry for the folks that moved to nashville in recent times thinking this is how the town has always been. No!!!!!!!! I hate to sound like the old guy but this town was full of characters in our format that were identifiable There was The man in black The possum, no show jones The red headed stranger The outlaw Waylon Jennings The singing sheriff Faron Young The guitar man Jerry Reed The quick witted Roger miller The true holy hell singers Lefty frizell Ray Price The amazing talented Chet (by God) Atkins The Bakersfield sound -- Merle haggard Buck Owens The Opry had Grandpa jones Minnie Pearl Roy Acuff Porter Wagoner Roy Acuff Little jimmy dickens string bean True characters All we have left is Willie Nelson Haggard And Mel Tillis Man, These guys drove themselves around in Lincolns and Cadillacs with upright basses strapped to the top just for the love of music.... No bus drivers , no road managers .... No big paychecks And they had hits.... You could go into bars and hear the best of the best in every bar .... And they were all well rounded players from Jazz runs to chicken picking....... And you think nashville is a family now? Man I wish you could have just seen it before. Somewhere along the lines we have lost something. Im not talking about the music .... I know music progresses and has to change..but real life dont change and What about the vibe and the characters and songs that spoke about real life.... Not written and sung to a demographic that buys the most records 16 years and below.... There was drinkin and cheating and working hard for no pay and living check to check.... And the little man against the machine.... And songs about praying to God Why me lord Seems like the only thing we held onto is Small town In a town that doesnt Think small anymore. As another studio goes down and another glass condo goes up. I like whats on radio dont get me wrong, and Iike all my friends that are on radio.... I just been thinking how many corner stones do we have to lose before the whole damn thing is gone?? Whats gonna be on the juke box in some old bar 20 years from now that a man down on his luck gonna drink too?????? And what are tourists gonna come to see..... Right here wear this condo is use to be the studio where Waylon and Johnny and Willie and Ray and Hank use to record..... Makes me wanna re approach my new cd. Thanks for listening.
