7. And now for an answer to one of our quiz questions. How many products does the average woman put on every morning? 15! Think about it, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, deodorant, hair styling products, cosmetics and a splash of perfume. If you are using off-the-shelf products each of those 15 products most likely contains one and often a lot more toxic chemicals. The next several slides will go through some of the most prevalent chemicals and why we need to be aware of them. First is Triclosan. This was recently banned in Minnesota and is under review by the FDA. It is found in anti-bacterial soaps and many other products. Triclosan is classified as a pesticide and probable carcinogen by the EPA. In fact, the EPA gives Triclosan high scores both as a human health risk and as an environmental risk. It is a synthetic antibacterial ingredient that contributes to the creation of resistant forms of bacteria like MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus).
