7 July 2014 $1.8 MILLION TO IMPROVE MOTORIST SAFETY AT KANANGRA DRIVE Member for Swansea Garry Edwards today announced the NSW Government is providing $1.8 million in funding over 2 years to Wyong Shire Council under the Safer Roads Program to improve safety along Kanangra Drive at Crangan Bay. “Funding for this important safety upgrade is provided through the Safer Roads Program, which aims to reduce the risk and severity of crashes on NSW roads,” Mr Edwards said. “The NSW Government and Wyong Shire Council recognised a need to improve the safety of motorists on Kanangra Drive, and subject to driver behavior, reduce the likelihood of crashes occurring. “Around 7,000 vehicles travel on this road every day, including a relatively high volume of heavy vehicles especially at the southern end of the road near the Pacific Highway. “Since July 2008, there have been 27 crashes on Kanangra Drive, including one fatal crash earlier this year and 18 injury crashes,” he said. “The safety upgrade work will be carried out by Council and includes widening the travel lanes and road shoulders, police enforcement bays, road resurfacing and installing wire safety barriers, raised line marking, warning signs and guide posts. “The work will be carried out at various locations on Kanangra Drive between the Pacific Highway and Summerland Point Road.” Work is expected to start later this year and be completed in 2016. • Member for Swansea Garry Edwards, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Regional Manager Anna Zycki, Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Commander David Swilks and Wyong Shire Council Mayor Cr. Doug Eaton will be at the carpark on the western side of Kanangra Drive on Tuesday, 8th July 2014 at 10.00am for a site visit. MEDIA: Nick Jones (Garry Edwards MP) 0432 389 429
