7 May 1942 – STORM DOES GREAT DAMAGE SOUTH OF HIGBEE – One Woman Killed East Of Fayette And All Kinds Of Property Destroyed In Violent Storm Saturday Night-------- One of the worst storms this section ever experienced struck in east Howard County south of here Saturday night about 8 o’clock, and left destruction in its path for several miles as it traveled east. The 2-story residence of Mrs. Sam Reed of east of Fayette was wrecked and she was killed. Relative to the damage at the Reed home the Fayette Advertiser says: “ Mrs. Sam Reed, 46, was killed when her 2-story house was blown from its foundation and totally wrecked along with its contents. A large chimney fell on Mrs. Reed, her 10-year-old son, Donald Russell, and her father-in-law, Wash Reed. The three had been sitting before the fireplace.
