7 October - Feast of the Holy Rosary and Mar Sarkis and Bakhos Mar Sarkis and Bakhos are very popular eastern martyr saints and many Maronite Churches have been named after them. Mar Sarkis and Bakhos lived in the fourth century at a time when Christians were being persecuted. They were both well-regarded soldiers in the Roman army. They were exposed as Christians when they refused to enter a pagan temple and worship. They were both humiliated by being dragged through the city in chains and made to wear women’s clothing. Mar Bakhous was then beaten to death. After his death Mar Bakhous appeared to Mar Sarkis and encouraged him to remain strong. Mar Sarkis continued to be tortured and was ultimately beheaded. Inspired by these great saints let us learn the value of true Christian friendships, those who encourage us to remain strong in our faith. Let us also join together on Tuesday evening at 8pm to pray the Rosary together in true friendship for the Feast of the Holy Rosary.
