7 years ago I began lecturing in arranging at WITS and discovered the important responsibility and inordinate satisfaction that comes from having even the smallest part in affecting the lives of young and upcoming musicians. I beam with pride at former students like Andrew Orkin who went on to complete his Masters Degree at NYU, and Carl Straussner who is currently doing his Masters Degree at New England Conservatory. Tonight I went to watch the final year Bachelors Degree Performance recital of Callandra Youngleson who I met when she was still in high school. She is more than a singer. She is a scarily intuitive, massively intelligent vocal musician. I will never know the feeling of being a proud parent. But this sure feels damn close.
