70 YEAR OLD NOOR MOHAMMAD DIED IN THE OPEN LAST NIGHT IN RANGPURI PAHARI AREA AS A RESULT OF THE TARGETED DEMOLITION AT THE REQUEST OF BJP MLA SAT PRAKASH RANA - NEED FOR PERMANENT MEASURES TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE OF RANAGPURI PAHARI JHUGGI RESIDENTS FACING IN-HUMAN CONDITIONS 1. I take this opportunity to bring to your notice the plight of the Over 250 families of the area lying in the open under sky, due to the demolition carries out on 25 Nov 2014. (a) Noor Mohammad a 70 year old resident of the cluster died due to the exposure to the cold last night. 2. This demolition has been carried out at the request of Shri SP Rana - Letter of the MLA is attached for your perusal. Letters have also been initiated by his affiliated organizations to achieve the aim of polarization in the residents of the area, copy of the letter is also attached . In these letters the poor residents of Rangpuri Pahari have been classified as a grave threat to the airport security. This, along with the environmental damage has been cited as the reason for the demolition to be carried out. 3. We seek your personal intervention in the matter of great concern – One individual; 70 year old Noor Mohammad, died today morning before the morning Azan. Small children and women are being exposed to the cold and all this is happening while government agencies strive to provide night shelters to the needy poor. 4. At this juncture it is important to take stock and provide immediate relief to them to prevent further loss of lives and at the same time initiate measures to ensure that the situation does not arise in the future. (a) A Tender for constructing the boundary wall has been initiated by DDA, once executed this will limit the area of the jhuggi cluster and ensure further incremental expansion of the cluster is prevented. Please issue directions for immediate implementation of the work. In fact the demolition should not have been carried out while the work was in offing. (b) These poor individuals are subjected to such black mailing prior to the elections, similar incident had occurred earlier in Salapur in Bijwasan Ward prior to the elections. To put an end to this targeted demolition- houses in the area should be surveyed and permanent number be allotted so as to insulate them from such arm twisting in the future.
