70 YEARS AGO A HUSBAND-WIFE TEAM STARTED CANNING EXCESS PRODUCE TO SELL AT FARMERS MARKETS. Click LIKE if you still enjoy Wos-Wit Pa. Dutch foods & tell us what is your favorite Wos-Wit product. In the early 40s John & Dorothy Kresge initially did all canning in their small kitchen on a farm in Mahoning Township. In 1947 when a new federal law required labeling on all products, a name was created & new company was born--Wos-Wit. Wos-Wit is Pa. Dutch for What Do You Want. That farm kitchen was soon transformed into a small manufacturing facility as demand for Wos-Wit products surged. In 1981, John Kresge passed away & left the business to his widow & 6 long-time employees. Dorothy Kresge, who was also a teacher in the Mahoning Elementary Schools for 46 years before retiring in 1974, passed away in 1993. In 1983, Paul Zukovich bought the Wos-Wit business & in 1988 he moved the canning operation to a 28,000 square foot facility in Hometown on his 80 acre Grouse Hunt Farms property. Today, Wos-Wit is still family-owned & operated. Over 80 Wos-Wit products are now distributed nationally in stores & sold on the internet. Popular Wos-Wit sellers include bacon dressing, chow chow, corn relish, & sauerkraut. A complete product listing can be found at wos-wit. Wos-Wit is a prime example of mom & pop operations that can not only survive but also flourish in todays coal region.Todays post was inspired by a Wos-Wit gift basket we received as a company Christmas present from AM 1410 WLSH.
