70% of all Lamb sold in the UK is now ritually slaughtered and is known as Halal meat. No requirement exists to force shops and takeaways to disclose this information. Marks and Spencers to Pizza Express and all in between sell Halal meat. Im none religious, so why should i eat anything that is or claims to be religious food. I dont drink wine at communion cos i dont go, i have a choice, but with the food we buy and eat we often have little choice. Those that desire to eat meat that is religious are in the minority yet big business, rather than sell both and label it properly have decided its easier and cheaper to just make all of it religious. Of course, the bigots out there jump on the two side show, muslims v everyone else but it isnt something the Muslim community have done, its big business, and although Halal is generally a muslim practice within Islamic teachings, religiously slaughtered food is used by many faiths. If someone wants to slaughter a lamb in a religious manner and then eat it fair enough, none of my business but when i end up eating it too then it is my business. On a higher level, there is no humane way to kill an animal, be it a bolt to the head or hung with its throat slit and left to bleed to death so perhaps to some its a mute point.
