70 years ago today my Gramms, Francis Bailey took her children Robert Bailey and Gene Francis Bailey to the local Church in Rustburg VA to join the town in community prayers for all the brave Soldiers on the Beaches of Normandy. I have often thought about what she must have thought that day knowing my Grampa Harry H. Bailey Sr. was among the units slated to hit the beaches that day Today I would like to keep all those brave Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen that risked their lives against terrible odds in an effort to bring that conflict to an end. For those of you who may not realize...an estimated 8,000 casualties happened on JUST June 6th alone with 1/3 of that being fatalities. On Bloody Omaha where I believe my Grandfather eventually came ashore a staggering 8000 casualties eventually were tallied. The scene from Saving Private Ryan is accurate with one minor detail...parts of Omaha remained under German control for days to come and the carnage is truly incomprehensible to anyone who never heard a bullet whip past their head. I write these words with the fervent hope that some of you take off your hat or pause sometime today to give silent praise to every single person whose life was changed forever on this day 70 years ago.....In a place do far away and a way of life so far removed from that which we enjoy today because of their sacrifices so long ago. HAIL the Heroes ...and the Families they left behind
