714 devotional... OPTION OR COMMANDMENT? Read Matthew 27:1 through 28:20 The twentieth century has produced a selfish Christianity in which believers use God for personal gain. Soul winning has become almost a lost art. But the fact does not change that the primary purpose of the Church is souls. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19–20). Evangelist, D. L. Moody believed that witnessing was not optional. He made a covenant with God that promised he would witness to at least one person each day. He religiously kept that vow. He stated, “It is the only happy life to live for, the salvation of souls.” The New Testament does not speak of a silent witness, but rather believers who both lived for God and faithfully told others about Him.
