#74: Ni**as in Paris by Jay-Z & Kanye West This song is dumb. It is a dumb, soulless party anthem about excessive, stereotyping minorities, objectifying women and generally not giving a crap. And I freaking love it. I don’t really believe in guilty pleasures, I think if you like something you shouldn’t feel guilty about it, but if I did, this is probably as close as this list is gonna get to one. There are a dozen reasons why this song shouldn’t work (None more so obvious than the fact that I’m not technically allowed to say the damn title.) but N-Word’s in Paris gets me through the same way any objectionable modern day song does; with the beat. And this song has an undeniably amazing production; those regal sounding opening chords match perfectly with the Watch the Throne album cover’s gold plated frame. Part of the reason why it works it that it never slows down till the end, it’s a relentlessly fun rollercoaster ride all the way through. And the ridiculous lyrics, the aspect you might think would hurt the production, is actually what makes it shine. Ni**as in Paris is unapologetically STUPID, and not only does it know it, it celebrates it. And every glorious idiotic moment brings a smile to my face; from Kanye’s insistence that no one under any circumstances let him into his zone, to the unbelievably cheesy Olsen Twins pun. Hell, it even manages to shoehorn a sample from a forgettable Will Ferrell figure skating comedy, AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY! So you know what, I take back that guilty pleasure comment from earlier. Ni**as in Paris is simply a pleasure to listen, beginning to end. And that shit cray!
