78th annual Easter sunrise at Bald Knob, Alto Pass, Illinois April 20, 2014. Easter morning atop Illinois second highest elevation is a Southern Illinois tradition. Services there began in 1937. It took decades to raise the funds, but on Easter morning, 1959 ground was broken for the 110 ft Bald Knob Cross. Over the years the exposure took its tool on the cross. The structure underwent an extensive renovation in 2009. Easter services atop Bald Knob is an eclectic affair. Groups of the devout, the spiritual, the pagan and the non-believing find there way up to the high ground to great the sun every Easter morning. Regardless of a persons faith there is room for everyone on Bald Knob.
