790 AD These past few years have been rough, but very rewarding. I have been through many battles and seen both victory and defeat, however, I have been slowly expanding my land and Christianizing much of Europe. As I mentioned in my last post I did go to the Lombards, defeated them, and became their king by 774 AD, we tried to take Spain from the Muslims and tasted bitter defeat, but the of year 788 AD was not a complete loss as I took Bavaria, also after an extended period of persuasion and warfare I have started to move on to the Saxons and am getting better results (“Charlemagne” Britannica). I plan to continually expand although it has become more difficult to control my people so I think I will have to put in some sort of system of accountability and limit the power of those who threaten my position such as the counts (Spielvogel, 217-218). I have to be sure that they do not get too comfortable where they are and damage my control.
