7월 22일 “나는 너희 남편임이니라.” [예레미야 3:14] 예수 그리스도는 결혼을 통해 그의 백성들과 하나되셨습니다. 그는 사랑 안에서 그의 교회를 순결한 신부로 맞이하셨습니다. 그런데 그 아내가 곧 속박의 멍에에 빠지게 되었습니다. 그래서 주님은 그녀를 되찾기 위해 필요한 금액을 다 지불하실 때까지 마치 야곱이 라헬을 위해 수고했던 것처럼 교회에 대한 불타는 사랑으로 땀흘리며 수고하셨습니다. 이제 그의 영으로 그녀를 되찾아 그녀로 하여금 그를 알고 사랑하도록 만들어 놓으신 주님은 혼인 예식 때 신부와 신랑간의 지극한 기쁨이 절정에 달할 그 영광스러운 때를 기다리고 계십니다. 그 영광스러운 신랑은 온전해진 그의 신부를 천국의 위엄 앞에 아직 내어 놓지 않았습니다. 교회는 아직 그의 아내요 왕비로서의 위엄을 누리는 자리에 실제로 들어가지 못했습니다. 그녀는 아직 저주받을 이 땅에서 방황하고 있으며 게달의 장막에 거하고 있습니다. 그러나 지금 이 순간에도 그녀는 주님의 신부입니다. 예수님의 가슴에 그렇게 사랑스럽고 그의 눈에 그처럼 소중할 뿐 아니라 그의 손바닥에 쓰여 있으며 그와 하나가 된 예수님의 신부입니다. 그리스도는 이 땅에서 그녀를 향해 남편으로서의 모든 사랑스러운 직임을 행사하십니다. 그는 그녀가 부족한 것들을 풍성히 공급해 주시며, 그녀의 채무를 다 갚아주시고, 그녀로 하여금 그의 이름을 사용할 수 있도록 허락해 주시며, 그의 모든 부요를 다 받아 누릴 수 있게 해주십니다. 그리고 앞으로도 항상 그렇게 해주실 것입니다. 그리스도는 이혼이라는 말을 입 밖에도 내지 않으십니다. “그는 이혼을 미워하십니다.” 죽을 수밖에 없는 사람들 사이에서는 가장 사랑하는 사람들과의 연결 고리인 결혼줄이 사망에 의해 끊어집니다. 그러나 이 불멸의 결혼줄은 사망도 갈라놓을 수 없습니다. 성도들은 물론 천국에서 결혼하지 않습니다. 하나님의 천사들처럼 지냅니다. 그런데 놀라운 예외가 있습니다. 그것은 그리스도와 그의 교회가 천국에서 기쁘게 결혼식을 올린다는 것입니다. 이 관계는 이 땅에서의 부부 관계보다 더 지속적이요 더 가까운 관계입니다. 남편의 사랑이 그처럼 순수하고 열렬할 수 없습니다. 그러나 이것은 예수님의 가슴 속에서 타고 있는 그 불길의 희미한 그림자에 지나지 않습니다. 그리스도와 교회의 이 신비한 연합은 모든 인간의 연합을 초월하는 연합입니다. 왠지 아십니까? 그리스도는 그의 아버지를 떠나 교회와 한몸이 되셨기 때문입니다. 찰스 스펄전 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "I am married unto you." Jeremiah 3:14 Christ Jesus is joined unto His people in marriage-union. In love He espoused His Church as a chaste virgin, long before she fell under the yoke of bondage. Full of burning affection He toiled, like Jacob for Rachel, until the whole of her purchase-money had been paid, and now, having sought her by His Spirit, and brought her to know and love Him—He awaits the glorious hour when their mutual bliss shall be consummated at the marriage-supper of the Lamb! Not yet, has the glorious Bridegroom presented His betrothed, perfected and complete, before the Majesty of heaven. Not yet, has she actually entered upon the enjoyment of her dignities as His wife and queen. She is as yet—a wanderer in a world of woe, a dweller in the tents of Kedar; but she is even now the bride, the spouse of Jesus, dear to His heart, precious in His sight, written on His hands, and united with His person! On earth He exercises towards her—all the affectionate offices of Husband. He makes rich provision for her needs, pays all her debts, allows her to assume His name, and to share in all His wealth. Nor will He ever act otherwise to her. The word divorce He will never mention, for "He hates divorce." Death must sever the marital tie between the most loving mortals—but it cannot divide the links of this immortal marriage. In heaven they do not marry—but are as the angels of God; yet there is this one marvelous exception to the rule, for in Heaven Christ and His Church shall celebrate their joyous nuptials. This affinity as it is more lasting, so is it more near than earthly wedlock. Let the love of husband be never so pure and fervent—it is but a faint picture of the flame which burns in the heart of Jesus!
