8-10 to 8-13, Spent 4 enjoyable days with nieces, Beth, Amy and Jo; their Dad, Todd; and Amys children, Zak, Micah and Isabelle, in Corralitos, CA. On 8-11, at 24 hour Fitness in Santa Cruz, I seemingly set some near PRs swimming in the presumably 25 yard pool. After boasting to a local about the results of my weight lifting program, he told me the pool was a yard or two short of 25. I paced off 23 for a crude estimate, then asked another local. He said its 60 feet. I asked incredulously, you mean its only 20 yards!?. He peered down at me, shook his head, and said no, its 60 feet. I asked a couple more people who said 22 or 23 yards, while someone at the front desk said authoritatively 20 yards. I paced it off again, more carefully: 67 heel toe paces of my 12 inch feet. Then I thought of the sign by the c 50 foot pool at 24 Hour Fitness in Santa Barbara that reads 25 yards. Next day Zak, Amy, Jo, Beth, Isabelle and friend and I went to Its Beach in Santa Cruz yelp/biz/its-beach-santa-cruz. We took dogs Scarlet and Olive to romp, unleashed, on the beach. The girls went for a swim in the too cold for me, waters, while Zak and I followed a zany local to the cliffs and watched him plunge c 30 feet into a deep pool. We opted out using no wet suit as an excuse. Back on the beach, I asked Zak if he ever wondered what any of those flies might be thinking while they flit over the sand and seaweed, and make occasional meaningful contact. He lit up, smiled and said all the time! Anyone else wonder what our fellow earthlings are thinking? Or where their spirits come from or go?
