8/30/13 Evening Written 1 hour ago Today Dianne had a really good day. Her fever was gone or very low for the majority of the day. She will continue to take antibiotics for the next two weeks to fight the infection she has but it seems she is improving. A physical therapist was in today to give her some physical manipulation and she followed some verbal commands! On more than one occasion she squeezed a hand or wiggled her toes for the therapist and she was able to open her eyes and follow the people in front of her. This alertness and responsiveness was followed by a lot of sleepiness but every step right now is huge and we were all very excited about her progress today. With these types of injury it is not uncommon to have days of activity and days of rest so there is no telling what tomorrow will bring, but we are hoping and praying that she will continue to improve each day, even if only the tiniest bit. Dianne also had the staples removed from her head today from all of the incisions and was fitted for a helmet that she will have to wear for the next few months during therapy and as she becomes more active. Since the bone flap that was removed will not be replaced for at least a couple months this helmet will be used to protect her brain in the absence of the bone. Overall a lot of progress took place today and we can all be very happy about that! As always, we appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers and we continue to read the guest book daily.
