8 AMBULANCES WORTH 4.4MILLION EACH UNVEILED.............. NYERI Governor Nderitu Gachagua yesterday flagged off eight ambulances that will be sent to eight subcounties. The county government bought the vehicles worth Sh35 million, which will be assigned two drivers who will work in shifts. The County Ambulance Service is geared to ensuring an efficient, accessible and affordable emergency health care service. “This service consist of a the state-of-the-art, well equipped four wheel-drive vehicles with qualified emergency rescue personnel, which I understand, will be coordinated from a central command station, Gachagua said. The ambulances are fitted with modern communication equipment, including radio call system as will shortly be demonstrated.” The governor said the ambulances will provide emergency response, rescue and evacuation services, right from homes. Gachagua said the launch of the services is not an isolated event but a part of a well coordinated and deliberate process of service delivery. This service will greatly improve and ease access to health facilities and services across the county be it public, private or faith-based mission hospitals,” the governor said. Gachagua said the ambulances will be kept at a health centre or a dispensary at the subcounty level. He said they have considered centrality, accessibility and security of health centers and dispensary when making the decision. The governor said his government will improve the working environment of health workers across the county to enhance service delivery. Gachagua urged the national assembly and the Senate to ensure more funds reach the grassroots for common mwananchi to benefit. Health executive Charles Githinji said the ambulances will serve Othaya, Kieni East, Kieni West, Mathira East, Mathira West, Mukurwe-ini, Tetu and Nyeri town.
