8 October 2014 (Thailand: Khao Dinsor) - the forecast was for rain - TopicsExpress

8 October 2014 (Thailand: Khao Dinsor) - the forecast was for rain all day today, so of course it did not rain all day...but heavy rain did arrive at about 2pm. Meanwhile overcast skies made photography difficult - and combined with the light winds, life as a migrating raptor was difficult too. I suppose that is why we saw o few migrants - though we did have a light morph Booted Eagle (see rather bad photo as evidence) and an Eastern Marsh Harrier. Once again Thitisan Nakavirod and Rongrong Angkaew combined to give a wonderful effort counting silhouette bird against the cloudy sky. They were helped immensely by Tom Backlund . And at the top, Werat Kaewklam contributed some good birds with Dave Eric Sargeant . Yes there were some Needletails around for the man from Chiang Mai - but where they were he wasnt...and once when they passed overhead (thanks Andrew Pierce ) the needletails were going north at full speed - and looked like mosquitoes. Tmorrow the weather is supposed to be better - and light god for photography...so two lousy images for today (apologies to all).
